James Cecil Crum
DIMMITT - James Cecil Crum, 79, died Thursday, April 10, 2003.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Castro Memorial
Gardens with Robert Hawkins, a Methodist Lay Minister, officiating.
Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors of Hereford.
Mr. Crum was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Dimmitt to James Scott and Mattie
Crum. He was raised and attended schools in Dimmitt. He was a grandson
of Castro County pioneers and married Virginia Luker in 1949 in
Amarillo.
He joined the Navy in 1942 and was involved in many major battles of
the South Pacific in World War II on the USS White Plains. He was
awarded the presidential unit citation.
After the war he farmed in Castro County until his retirement. He
moved to Hereford in 1994 and returned to Dimmitt in August 2002.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include three sons, Gerry Crum and Gail Crum, both of
Dimmitt, and Keith Crum of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Marie Foster of
Roswell, N.M.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church in Dimmitt, with the Rev. Derrel Evins officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.
Mr. Crum was born Feb. 27, 1958, to James and Virginia Luker Crum in Dimmitt. He had lived in Texas until 13 years ago, when he relocated to Oklahoma with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Crum; two sons, Derek Sean Crum and Keelah Tyler Crum, both of Edmond, Okla.; and two brothers, Gary Crum and Gail Crum, both of Dimmitt.

Garland A. Fincher Sr.
FINCHER, Garland A., Sr. born Jan. 17, 1915 in Lawton OK, passed away at home in Cerritos, CA on Feb. 25, 2004. A Californian since 1929, Garland worked at Firestone Tire & Rubber from 1933 until he retired in 1977. He is survived by his wife, Connie of 22 years; daughter, Joyce; Son, Garland Jr.; step-daughters, Karen, Tonya, Kathy, Donna, Tina; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held at Miller-Mies Mortuary, Downey, CA on Sat., Feb. 28th. Interment at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, CA.

Eugene A. Hawkins
Americus, Ga., November 6 - (Special) -- Eugene A. Hawkins, one of Americus' most prominent citizens and a well-known lawyer throughout this section of the state, died at his home here yesterday morning of apoplexy. The deceased was about seventy years of age, and for many years was mayor of Americus. Having retired from politics several years ago, he devoted his entire time to the practice of law, being attorney for the Central of Georgia and Seaboard railraods, in addition to a large clientele here and in othe counties of the southwestern judicial circuit.
Mr. Hawkins was twiced married, his first wife being Miss Mary Ann McClesky, who died about ten years ago. Of this union there were born six sons and four daughters. Four years ago he again married, and his widow, who was formerly Miss Willie Rutherford, a member of the well-known Rutherford family of Georgia, survives him. Other surviving relatives are Eugene Hawkins, Jr., of California, Willis A. Hawkins, Robert Toombs Hawkins, of Americus; Joseph Hawkins, of Washington, D.C.; Harry Hawkins, of Camp Gordon, and Sion Hawkins, of Atlanta; Mrs. W.E. Hawkins and Mrs. Clarence J. White, of Atlanta; Mrs. John Sheffield, of Americus, and Mrs. J. T. Killen, of Macon. Mrs. Theron Hawkins, of Americus, is a sister of the deceased.

Mary Ann McClesky Hawkins
Americus, Ga., December 14 - (Special) -- Mrs. Eugene Alston Hawkins, one of the most prominent and esteemed women of Americus, died this morning, after a brief illness. The deceased was the wife of former Mayor Eugene A. Hawkins, and the sister of Lucius L. McClesky, of Atlanta. There are numerous sons and daughters, including Mrs. William E. Hawkins of Atlanta; Mrs. J. T. Killen, of Macon; Mrs. Clarence J. White and Mrs. John Sheffield, of Americus, besides several sons.
Her death is a distinct shock to hundreds of friends here and throughout the state.

Mrs. C. G. Cogdell Buried At Americus
Americus, Ga., June 23 - Many friends attended the funeral of Mrs. Cordelia Gatewood Cogdell held here Friday. Rev. O. M. Seigler, of Americus First Baptist church, and Rev. H. H. Shirley, of Central Baptist church, conducted the obsequies, and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
Mrs. Cogdell, a former resident of Americus, died Friday at Valdosta, following an illness of some time. She is survived by her husband, Alton Cogdell and young daughter, Cordelia Gatewood Cogdell, of Valdosta; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Gatewood, Sr., of Americus; six brothers, T. F. Gatewood, Jr., A.D. Gatewood, II, Hal Gatewood and William Gatewood, all of Americus; Tom Gatewood, of Savannah, and Sam Gatewood, of Richland, and two sisters, Mrs. Theron Jennings and Miss Gladys Gatewood, both of Americus.

did not join the Church until after her marriage

Ga., July 28,1868, in the 75th year of her age.
She was converted in 1812 under the preaching of
Rev. HOPE HULL, and married to WILLIS A. HAWKINS,
SR., in 1816.
