My grandfather was Harry ESTES Hawkins (1904-1984) and his father Henry ESTES Hawkins (1876-1954). Henry ESTES Hawkins was adopted between 1876-1880 by John Willis Alston Hawkins and Mollie J. Hawkins. We were told ESTES was a family name. Next door JWA & Mollie was John W. Estes. Also the wedding notice of JWA and Mollie states they were married at the home of Capt. J. W. Estes. So, I was thinking that perhaps my Henry ESTES Hawkins was somehow related to this Capt. John W. Estes. However census work (of John W and the only known son Henry H.) doesn't seem to look that way. Does anyone have these families?
