Adam and Agnes (Sharpe) Winthrop II
Adam Winthrop II was born October 9, 1498 in Lavenham, Suffolk County, England. He married on November 16, 1527, Alice Henry or Henny. After her death, he married Alice Sharpe in 1534. Alice was born about 1516. After the death of Adam II she married a second time to William Mildmay.
This Adam Winthrop became a wealthy London merchant, acquiring the manor of Groton, near Lavenham, in 1544.
To the union of Adam and Agnes Winthrop (Adam had five by his first wife) eight known children were born: 1. Alice, born November 15, 1539 2. Bridget, born May 3, 1543, died November 4, 1614 3. Mary, born March 1, 1544 4. John (twin), born January 20, 1546, died July 26, 1613 5. Adam (twin), born January 20, 1546, died at 6 months 6. Adam, born August 10, 1548, died March 28, 1623 7. Catharine, born May 17, 1550 8. Susanna, born December 10, 1552, died August 9, 1604
Adam Winthrop II died November 9, 1562, in Groton, Suffolk County, England. Agnes Winthrop died on May 13, 1565.
