History Of The Arkansas 8th Infantry Regiment



Organization: Organized at Jacksonport on July 13, 1861. Mustered into Confederate service for 12 months on September 10, 1861. Reduced to five companies and reorganized by the assignment of the 7th and 9th Infantry Battalions on May 7, 1862. Field consolidation with the 19th (Dawson's) Infantry Regiment from November 15, 1863 to April 9, 1865. Consolidated with 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 13th, 15th, 19th (Dawson's), and 24th Infantry Regiments and with the 3rd Confederate Infantry Regiment and designated as the 1st Infantry Regiment. Consolidated at Smithfield, North Carolina on Arpil 9, 1865.
