To all people to whome these prisents shall com: John Gedney of Salem in the Co9unty of Essex, in New England senyir vintner & c : Know yee, that I the sayd John Gedney for divine good causes & considerations, me, thereunto moveing as also for the love & natural affection, which I beare & have unto my son John Gedney of the same place, marrener, have given & graunted & by these prisents doe freely cleerly & absolutely give, grant & confirme unto the said John Gedney Junyir one dwelling house newily, as it is now standing with all it’s appurtenances, together with about three quarters of an acre of ground adjoining there unto, as it is now bounded, be it more or less, being scittual & lying in the towne of Salem aforesd & bouned with som land of Joseph Miles to the north & som land of Nicholas Potter & Benjamin Feirmaies to ye east & som land of William Marstone to the west & with a lane or highway that goes to the towne found to the south. To all people to whome these print writing shall com, John Gidney of Salem, in the County of Essex, in New England, vintner, sendeth greeting: Know yee, that the sd John Gedney for divers good causes & considerations me thereunto moving & for the natural affection wch I beane & have unto my son in law Nicholas Potter senyr of ye same place, bricklayer, & to Mary my daughter, his now wife; have given & graunted & by these pr’nts, doe freely, cleerly & absolutely give, grant & confirme unto the sd Nicholas Potter & Mary his wife & theire heires, lawfully begotten of her the said Mary’s body; A dwelling house with halfe an acre of ground adjoining thereunto be it more or less, being scittual & is lying in Salem aforsd, neere unto the towne p9ound, & is bounded to the north with ye ground of Joseph Miles, to the east with ye grund of ye widow Feirmayes (deceased) & of Mr. Beadle & one ye south with a high waye or lane, & the west with some ground of John Gedney Junir & alsoe about fourer acres of ground, lying upon the neck in Salem aforesd, be it more or lesse, wich ground was formerly the land of Thomas Pigden & is bounded with the sea or north harbor to the north westerly & with the Comon to ye east, south & westerly. To have & to hold the sd quartr pt of the sd Catch, to them the said John Gedney Senr & John Gedney Junr, theire heires & assignes forever, & doe promise to warrentise the same, according to the tennour of the above written deed, & to the true pipormance of the promises. This Indenture made the twentieth day of June in the yeare of our Lord God, one thousand, six hundred, sixty & two between John Ruck of Salem in ye County of Essex in New England, merchant on the one pt & John Gedney Senyr of the same place, vintner of the other pt witnesseth that the said John Ruck for & in consideration of the full & just sume of twenty p9ounds starling to him in hand paid by the sd John Gidney before ye sealing & deklivery of these prisents whereof the said J9ohn Ruck doth acknowledge the receipt & there with himself fully satisfied & paid have given granted bargained, sold & confirmed & by these prisents doe give, grant, bargaine, sell, confirme & deliver unto ye said John Gedney, his heires & assignes forever, a certaine p’cell of land, containing one whole acre lying & is scittuate in Salem aforesd & is pt of that land adjoining to the dwelling house of ye d John Ruck, to the west side of his dwelling house & is adjoining to & bounded with a highway to the south, which highway goes up between the sd acre of land & the land of Mathew Woodwell from the water side to the Comon called Lawses hill & with the sd Comon on ye west & with the land of ye sd John Ruck on ye north & abuts against & is adjoining to a cove or creeke that coms out of the South river, eastward, which sd cove or creeke, the said John Gedney, his heires, executors & assignes, is to have the free use of the whole breadth of ye sd acre of land being bounded & is to beane its full breadth equaly at each end, tht is to say the full breadth of the sd land eastward, to ye channel of ye sd South River with free liberty of landing goods, wood or timber or lanching of vessels, shipps or boats or alsoe to dig & make convienient for his said use, without any let, molestation or hinderance whatsoever, by wharfing any pt of the fore mentioned breadth to the river ward, or by any other waies or means whatsoever. To have & to hold the sd acre of land so bounded as above said, with all ye privilidges & comodyties thereto belonging & all appurtenances as is above mentioned, with all the right & title thereto belonging, or in any wise appertaining, according to the true intent & meaning of the primises, to him the sd John Gedney & to his heires & assignes forever; & moreover the said John Ruck doth covenant & pimise, to & with ye sd John Gidney that he hath good right, full power & lawfull authority, in his owne name to bargaine, sell & conveye the same as above sd & that it shall & may be lawfull, to & for the sd John Gedney, his heires & assigns, forever heareafter, peaceably & quietly to have hould, occupy, possess, & enjy to him & them or either of theire use & uses forever, the aforesd lands & appurtenances privilidges & every pt thereof free & cleene & by him the said John Ruck, his heires, executors & administrators, from time to time & at all times, heareafter, well & sufficiently saved & kept harmless & undamifyed of & from all former & other bargaines, gifts, recogniscence, charges, sutes at law & incumbrances whatsoever, arising from any pison or pisons whatsoe ever, from by or under him The sd John Ruck, his heires, executors and administrators & in witness heareof, the said John Ruck, have heareto put his hand & seale, the day & yeare first abve written (It si to be understoon & always provided, not withstanding what is above exsprest, that ye sd John Gedney, nor his heirs or assigns is to have ye free use of ye cove above sd & soe downe o the river the breadth of the acre of land which exspressions abovesd is excepted agst & onlye granted the free use of ye sd cove from a stone at the upper end & a stone at the lowerend on the north side & soe to exstend in breadth southward full fifty eight foote & soe downe to ye channel of ye sd river. Goodell, to ye east with a brooke, & on ye west with som land of John Horne. Gedney for divers good cause & considerations thereunto me moveing especially for ye love & naturall affection I beare & have unto my son Jon.Gedney of the same towne & county, marrenor, have given & graunted & by these prisents doe freely, cleerely & absolutely, give, grant & confirme, unto ye sd John Gedney all that my fame, formerly given by the Towne of Salem, containing eighty acres of uploand & eight acres of meddow, be it more or less & is scittuat & lying in the bounds of Salem aforesaid & is bounded: the upland with ye land of Mr. Tho Gardner Senyir northerly & with the land of John Marsh senyir on the east or easterly & with som meddow called Mories meddow o(on which end there stands a pine tree marked), & is the bound betweene Mr. Gardner & the primisses) on the western end & with common land (yf not lately laid out by ye Towne) southerly: ye sd eight acres of meddow lying in ye greate meddow of ye sd Gardners being about one third of ye whole meddow & lyes ptly within or adjoining to ye primisses, alsoe one acre of ground in ye Towne, bounded on ye north with ye highway by the north river, on ye east with the land of Samuell & John Williams, on ye south with ye land by ye pound. & on the west with ye alnd of Steephen Haskett & Capt Benjamin Fermaies.
