Thomas Crawford was born in 1736 in Virginia. He went from Virginia to South Carolina, and returned to Brunswick County, Virginia where he married and some of his children were born. Afterwards he moved to North Carolina near Raleigh, then he moved to Halifax County, then Wake County, and lastly to Georgia in about 1790.

In 1763 he married Elizabeth Ann Alston who was born in about 1739.

To this union thirteen known children were born: 1) William 2) Delilah 3) Mary 4) John 5) Thomas 6) Martha 7) Grizelle Yancy 8) Hardy 9) Elizabeth 10) David 11) Nancy 12) Sarah 13) Martha.
