Michael Crawford was born in Hanover County, Virginia about 1707. While still young he moved to South Carolina and settled on the Great Pedee River. The Rev. William Crawford says of him, "He was a wild lad, fond of sports and all kinds of fun. He had to hunt out a new range, and located himself in South Carolina, upon the Great Pedee."

He married Elizabeth Terrell in Edgefield District or Anderson District, South Carolina, in 1730. Elizabeth was born in about 1709 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

To this union six known children were born: 1) John Hardy 2) James 3) Thomas 4) daughter 5) daughter 6) Terrell

Michael Crawford died in 17776. Elizabeth Crawford died in 1767.
